My children begin to dance. What kind of clothes wear your child for the ballet classes?
This is a big question!
As parents, it usual to be lost between all these different terms : pointes, leotards, dance skirts, tutus……
It can seem overwhelming!
The traditional dance outfit is composed by: a leotard or a tunic, dance skirt, tights and a pair of dance slippers.
In Winter, dance classes can be not sufficiently heated, so that dancers are not too hot.
At the beginning of the class, a dancer can wear a wrap sweater and a knitted or fleece pant. That way, the muscles’ dancers don’t get cold before the warm-up!
The wrap sweater is also a part of the dancewear.
For Jazz classes, your child will be dressed in a close-fitting t-shirt, an undergarment (bra) or a leotard worn with a short or a pant.
Concerning the boys, the Ballet dancewear consists of: a tight, a t-shirt or a leotard, a dance belt and a pair of ballet flats.
If there is not a compulsory dance outfit, you are free to select tour own clothes and let your imagination run wild!
Warning: some dance schools or associations don’t have dress rules but they can have preferences for some dance items, as for instance, the leather or canvas ballet slippers, a tunic instead of a leotard, or a slim-fitting t-shirt.
There you are, eventually you are ready to dance like a prima ballerina or to make your child become a “petit rat de l’opéra”!
